Draft your future
When your classroom space contains drafting tables instead of desks, learning in action isn't far behind.
Our Interior Design program is set up for your success, including a computer lab ready with all the software you need for your projects, a large plotter printer to output your designs, a materials room filled with samples and a work room for creating mood boards and models.
You’ll go outside and into the community to visit construction sites and existing buildings. You’ll design spaces for college and external clients. Those spaces have ranged through the Vermilion student pub Spurs to a revamped meeting room.
You’ll make a presentation to your client(s). Learn about how it feels if your design isn’t chosen as well as taking the design from paper to completed room, home or retail space.
You’ll combine your imagination and skills in international design competitions. Those competitions are through the National Kitchen & Bath Association (NKBA) and Decorators & Designers Association of Canada (DDA).
Field trips will take you to where the trends are starting, and you can see the latest in design.
You’ll complete your program with a 2-month practicum. More than learning in action, you’ll be using and honing your skills in the industry.
Every student has an 8 week practicum after completing course week.
Redesigning the interior design program's cutting room began a class project that
turned into a competition.
Since the 2004-05 academic year Lakeland College interior design technology students
have been recognized for their work in National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA)
competitions.
