For the third consecutive year, Lakeland College is excited to welcome back Cenovus Energy to present our premiere fundraising event: Feast on the Farm.
On August 15, industry leaders, community supporters, alumni and students will gather
on the tree-lined Research Centre grounds at the west side of Vermilion campus. It
will be an evening of delicious dining and live entertainment while raising funds
to support student-led and enhanced learning initiatives in Lakeland College.
“Feast on the Farm is truly a summer highlight at Lakeland,” says Dr. Alice Wainwright-Stewart, president and CEO of Lakeland College. “It's an opportunity to celebrate harvest while supporting what Lakeland College does best - providing hands-on learning opportunities for our students. We are appreciative that Cenovus Energy has once again stepped forward to present this event.”
Feast on the Farm began in 2016 and since then, over $260,000 has been raised to support student-led initiatives. Students, with faculty and staff assistance, choose projects that enhance both their hands-on learning opportunities and the college community. With funding raised from Feast on the Farm, they see those projects through to completion, learning valuable skills in the process.
“At Cenovus, we're committed to supporting the communities where we work and live
and we're excited to partner with Lakeland College again for their annual Feast on
the Farm,” says Craig Pardy, Cenovus Senior Manager, Project Engineering & Construction.
“We have a strong connection to Feast on the Farm, as many of our staff live and work
in the area and the event is a great way to bring the community together and promote
the local agriculture industry as well as the college.”
Past projects funded by Feast on the Farm dollars include creating a natural playscape on Vermilion campus, installing a new maternity pen on the farm, travelling internationally for teaching experience, and hosting various events to foster professional and personal growth. New technology for labs and classrooms has also been purchased to enhance experiential learning opportunities.
Cenovus Energy's support of Lakeland extends well beyond acting as presenting sponsors for Feast on the Farm. They have also contributed to the student awards program and played a pivotal role in the creation of the Energy Centre and Residences on Lloydminster campus. In 2023, they also made a $650,000 donation towards supporting Indigenous learners at the college.
