Lakeland employees are in one of 3 groups:

  • the administration - represented by an administrative group 

  • the faculty - represented by the faculty association 

  • the staff - represented by the Alberta Union of Public Employees (AUPE)

Deans, directors and managers are part of the administrative employee group. As well, some positions in financial services, human resources and student services. 

A list of all the positions included in this group is in the collective agreement. 

Over 250 Lakeland College employees are members of the Alberta Union of Public Employees (AUPE). Specifically they are members of Local 71, Chapter 004.  

The AUPE is Alberta's largest union. Its 90,000 plus members work in government, education and health care as well as for agencies and boards.  

The union is funded by 1.25% of members' salaries. Some of those dues go to fund professional development. 

Our local also supplies dinner at the annual general meeting (AGM) and has held a number of information lunches and coffee breaks. Each AGM includes an overview of activities throughout the year, elections and discussion of issues. 

Lakeland's local includes: 

  • an executive committee of a chair, vice-chair, secretary, treasurer and Local 071 council
  • representatives  
  • union stewards 

AUPE also offers its members a number of benefits including discounts, education program, bursaries and scholarships, a quarterly magazine and counselling services. 

 

The Lakeland College Faculty Association represents the college's faculty. 
 
The association has an office on the Vermilion campus in the Academic Link (AL210).

The association has a board of directors including:

  • president 
  • immediate past president 
  • treasurer 
  • board of governors representative 
  • representatives from each academic school 
  • representatives from the 3 largest schools

The faculty association also has a number of committees:

  • negotiations 
  • nominations 
  • professional development 
  • professional standards 
  • safety

Faculty also has:

  • four representatives on Lakeland's Academic Council committee 
  • two delegates on the Alberta Colleges and Institutes Faculties Association
