We try to make it easier for you to remember your certificate expiry date by putting the expiry on your birthday. If you were certified by writing one of our exams, we issue the certificate for between 4 and 5 years, depending on your birthdate and when you wrote your exam.
If you were certified in another province and got reciprocity in Alberta, we aren’t able to extend the expiry date beyond that of the original certificate. Please note that your Alberta certificate will expire on your birthdate if it’s before the expiry date of the original certificate.
To have a new certificate issued you will need to submit an online application for a replacement certificate.
Please be advised that there is a fee for a replacement certificate.
Submit an online application to rewrite the exam. The rewrite fee is $225. Someone from the Pesticides office
will contact you within 3 business days to schedule the exam date and proctor site.
All exams are booked a minimum of 15 business days in advance pending availability. In the busy spring season our exam seats fill up very quickly
and the wait to write may be longer.
Note: If you fail the exam twice, you will have to wait 6 months before writing again.
There are exceptions:
- Take 8 hours of hands-on training with someone who has held the class of certificate that you are earning for 5 years or longer. Our office requires a letter from that applicator verifying that they have trained you. Once we have received it, you can pay for another exam online.
- Attend a training tutorial.
If you fail a third time, you must wait another 6 months before writing again.
Alberta Environment requires that you register your business with that department.
On the AEP website you can download the information under Forms for pesticide services - Application for a Pesticide Service Registration.
- review and make changes to your contact/mailing information
- review your certificate information
- check your accumulated re-certification credits.
You’ll need your 9 digit student ID number along with your applicator certificate number to use the applicator database.
If you need your student ID number, call us at 1 800 853 8646 or email pesticides@lakelandcollege.ca.
Credit sessions are approved by Alberta Environment and are happening year-round. PD Solutions offers online credits. They do offer the option to take archived webinars, those are limited to 5 per recertification period. Lakeland College, Olds College, and Lethbridge Polytechnic all offer credit workshops as well. Please check Tutorials tab to see any upcoming Lakeland College credit workshops.
Credits are entered manually from the sign-in sheets at your event. The staff enter them in the order they are received. If you attended a conference with hundreds of attendees and/or multiple sessions, please allow time for the credits to be entered. If you are recertifying soon and have attended a session that is not appearing on your list of credits, you can let us know that when you are making the payment, there is a section specifically for that
You do not have to rewrite the core portion of the exam if you already hold a valid applicators certificate.
All you have to do is write the exam for the class of certificate you would like to add. Start by checking out the individual lessons you need for the extra class check under home study courses.
Order the lessons. Study, and then write the exam.
Please contact the office by email to request a name change form. Email pesticides@lakelandcollege.ca.
If you want to have your new name on your certificate you will need to order a replacement by submitting an application online. The cost is $60 and the process can take up to 15 business days.
