The quickest way to travel to Lakeland College from abroad is via air. The closest international airport is in Edmonton.
In most cases you won't fly directly to Edmonton. It's more likely you'll arrive in one of Canada's larger cities—Montreal, Toronto or Vancouver. At this first Canadian stop you'll go through customs and immigration. When you book your next connection, please give yourself enough time to clear immigration.
- If you land in Edmonton (the closest international airport), our Vermilion campus is still a minimum of 2.5 hours away by vehicle. The Lloydminster campus is another half hour.
- There is no train to either of our campus communities.
- There are small bus companies, but you'd need to find a way from the airport to their Edmonton departure points. A taxi from the airport to downtown Edmonton is around $60.
- There is information about travel into Edmonton from the airport on the Edmonton International Airport site (you'll find bus and car service options).
The International team provides a shuttle service to campus before the start of each semester. We offer a limited number of free scheduled shuttles from the Edmonton International Airport to Vermilion and Lloydminster. Choose from the available dates below:
- 12 pm on Aug 20, 2025 (deadline to sign up Aug 14)
- 12 pm on Aug 25, 2025 (deadline to sign up Aug 21)
Please fill out the sign up form by the deadlines if you would like to use this shuttle service.
If you choose to fly into Edmonton, these are your transportation options:
- Rider Express a regional bus service
- ride share app, such as Uber or Lyft

Having an international driving permit (IDP) from your home country can make the process of getting your license in Canada easier.
