Journeyperson welders typically find work at:

  • Vessel or structural steel assembly sites
  • Pipeline construction sites
  • Commercial construction sites
  • Industrial construction sites
  • Steel fabrication companies
  • Heavy equipment repair businesses
  • Self-owned contractor service companies

Experienced welders may:

  • become a welding inspector, foreman or supervisor
  • become a plant supervisor
  • open their own repair shops
  • work as portable rig welders who contract out their services
