Choose our general business major to acquire a broad range of business knowledge and skills.
Your required courses help you build business fundamentals and practical skills. Our expert instructors will teach you in:
- accounting
- organization behaviour
- communications
- marketing
- economics
Your elective courses give you flexibility to tailor your courses to your interest and goals. You even have the option to choose 2 courses from outside business. You’ll discuss your goals and course options with your academic advisor before you start second year.
Start building industry connections during an optional 16-week summer practicum.
You can stay at Lakeland and earn your degree. Our partnership with Athabasca University gives you two options:
- stay an extra year for the Bachelor of Management
- stay for an extra two years for the Bachelor of Commerce

Electives
You will take two 3-credit business electives in year 1 and eight 3-credit business electives in year 2. Your academic advisor will work with you to match your interests with the course schedule.
In the meantime, check out your options for business electives.
Your weekly class schedule can be found on your My Lakeland student portal when available. This is usually one month prior to the program start date.

Double major at Lakeland
Stay at Lakeland for another year and earn a double major. Not all combinations are possible.
If you are interested, talk to your academic advisor about the options.
On-campus degree options
Stay at the Lloydminster campus and turn your diploma into a degree. Our agreement with Athabasca University allows you to enrol in one of 2 degree programs:
You’ll take a mix of online AU courses and face-to-face Lakeland business and university transfer courses.
Block transfer options
Lakeland has block transfer agreements. This means your 60-credit diploma will transfer directly to select institutions. See currently available block transfer paths outlined below:
University of Lethbridge - Dhillon School of Business offers a Post-diploma Bachelor of Management.
Note:
- minimum 3.0 GPA is required
- completed AC 450
University of Saskatchewan - Edwards School of Business offers a Bachelor of Commerce.
Note: 60 credits must be completed at Lakeland College to be eligible for this block transfer. Transfer credits will be assessed by USask on a course-by-course basis if some of your 60 credits were completed at another institution.
Other transfer options
Even if Lakeland doesn't have a block transfer agreement, your course credits open doors to many other colleges, polytechnics and universities.
The easiest way to transfer is within Alberta. Lakeland College is one of 41 members of the Alberta Transfer and Pathways System. Explore your options on Transfer Alberta.
You could transfer somewhere else in Alberta, Western Canada, Canada or even internationally.
If you are looking at an institution outside of Alberta, you'll need to check either directly with the institution or a provincial organization. Our transfer guide page has links.

Yes. You can exit with a 1-year business administration certificate after completing all 10 first-year courses. This is something you can discuss with your academic advisor.

Business administration diploma students can apply for an optional 14-week paid co-op
work experience. Organized by Lakeland, this experience offers a great opportunity
to hone and practice your skills.
